๐งฎ Metrics That Matter: ๐น Conduit Rough-In Benchmarks
Each edition, spotlight a key metric that affects jobsite performance or project health.
๐ What is it?
Conduit rough-in benchmarks help field teams measure realistic daily output during above-ground electrical installations โ especially with EMT and MC. These metrics support planning, crew allocation, and schedule forecasting.
๐น Daily Output Benchmarks (Per Installer)
EMT Rough-In
1/2" EMT: 310'โ410'
3/4" EMT: 270'โ370'
1" EMT: 230'โ300'
MC Cable Pull
Small (#14โ#8): 400'โ500'
Large (#1/0โ#250): 175'โ250'
Flex Conduit
1/2" Flex: 350'โ500'
3/4" Flex: 300'โ450'
โ Why it matters:
These benchmarks give you a realistic target for crew output โ not pie-in-the-sky estimates.
They help catch productivity slumps early and justify manpower increases or delays.
You can compare actuals vs. expected to coach the team or improve routing/layout efficiency.
๐ ๏ธ Pro Tip:
Log conduit install per route type: overhead rack, tight ceilings, in-wall, or exposed. Use color-coded plans to visualize progress vs. target.
๐ Interpreting the Data
๐บ Above target? โ Lean crew. Great for tight timelines.
โ๏ธ On target? โ You're tracking just right.
๐ป Below target? โ Check for issues: material delays, layout changes, congested areas.
๐งพ Simple Example
๐ง Task: 3/4" EMT Rough-In
Daily Goal: 350 ft
Actual Output: 290 ft
% Achieved: 83%
๐ง Task: 1/2" Flex Conduit
Daily Goal: 400 ft
Actual Output: 420 ft
% Achieved: 105%
๐ง Task: Large MC Pull
Daily Goal: 225 ft
Actual Output: 180 ft
% Achieved: 80%
๐ก Track weekly by foreman or area. Use these benchmarks to coach your team, defend schedule shifts, or support change orders.
